Another installment in the "Winterlude" CD series, "Sax Winterlude" (Volume 5) gives a somewhat different twist on instrumental Christmas music than the other offerings in the series.
This CD is more attuned to those cold, winter nights when youre with that certain someone in front of the fireplace, or alone with your thoughts and a mug of hot cocoa.
As the name implies, the saxophone dominates this CD, but there is also a good mix of other instruments, making for a contemplative Christmas, which is the real intent of the series.
The players include: Mark Douthit (tenor and soprano saxophone) John Hammond (drums) Gary Lunn (bass) Mark Baldwin (acoustic and electric guitars) Bob Patin and Tim Akers (keyboards) and Eric Darken (percussion).
Dont let the instruments fool you -- "Sax Winterlude" is just as enjoyable a CD as the other offerings in this series. At just under 42 minutes, it is not as long as other Christmas CDs that emphasize quantity over quality, but there is still a good amount of music to hear.
Note: this CD is out of print, so it may be difficult to obtain. However, you will not be dissapointed in obtaining this title. Another recommendation for your Christmas music collection.

Sax Winterlude is a welcome departure from the typical hyper-jolly, sometimes brash holiday CDs. The music is contemplative and perfect for enjoying a hot mug of cocoa or a glass of winter wine.
